The RP14AY48AJ2NA outdoor heat pump drives the RH2TY4821STANNJ air handler at the top of that cabinet’s rating, delivering full four-ton output on R-454B refrigerant with a 27 amp minimum circuit ampacity. For builders and contractors working 2,000 to 2,400 square foot plans, this is the workhorse size of the Endeavor Line Classic Series.
Is a 4 Ton Heat Pump System the Right Size?
Four tons covers approximately 1,900 to 2,400 square feet in a hot climate. Larger four and five bedroom homes, houses with a lot of glass, and open-plan layouts with two-story great rooms commonly land here. It is also a common capacity for light commercial spaces such as offices, salons and small retail suites.
At this capacity, distribution becomes the deciding factor. A 4 ton system moves around 1,600 CFM, and a home that fights to deliver that airflow will feel uneven no matter how the equipment is rated. Long duct runs, a single undersized return, and closed interior doors all raise static pressure. If one part of the house is consistently warmer, zoning or a second smaller system is often a better answer than simply adding tonnage.
