Built for large homes with big cooling demands, this Goodman package combines the 48,000 BTU/h GLXS4BA4810 R-32 condenser with the AMST48CU1300 air handler. The pair is certified under AHRI #214860027 at 14 SEER2. It’s a strong value for homeowners with multi-bedroom, two-story or high-ceiling homes and for contractors quoting larger replacements. It has a scroll compressor, an internal TXV and a 10″ wide ECM blower wheel for high-airflow duct systems. It’s cooling only, with support for field-installed Goodman electric heat strips.
Is a 4 Ton Air Conditioning System the Right Size?
A 4 ton system provides 48,000 BTU/h of nominal cooling and is typically considered for larger homes. That’s often in the neighborhood of 2,100-2,500 sq. ft. as a loose benchmark. Larger homes vary more in load than small ones, so a room-by-room calculation matters even more here.
Look at the whole picture: two-story heat stratification, vaulted great rooms, walls of glass, pool-facing lanais, attic ductwork and the number of occupants. Return air sizing matters just as much. A 4 ton system needs enough return and supply duct capacity to move its airflow quietly, and undersized ducts are a common problem in 4 ton replacements.
Ideal for: Large single-family homes, two-story homes with 4+ bedrooms, homes with vaulted ceilings and properties with heavy solar gain.

The AMST48CU1300 is the tallest C-cabinet model at 58″. It uses a 10″ x 10″ blower wheel and a 7/8″ coil suction connection for the higher airflow a 4 ton system needs. The AMST48CU1300 air handler and the GLXS4BA4810 condenser are each available individually when only one side needs replacing.
