Low Ambient Kit Goodman, Daikin LAKT01
The Goodman, Daikin LAKT-01 Low Ambient kit is a field installed accessory that is activated when system cooling operation is required during low ambient conditions (i.e. the outdoor temperature “ambient temperature” is below the manufacturer specifications for cooling operation, or cooling BTU s significantly reduced). This is typically required when outdoor temperatures are below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Installation of this control allows the suction line (low side) to remain above the point which can cause icing of coil and ultimately a unit shutdown without a low ambient kit installed. A Low Ambient Kit is intended to maintain system pressures at normal levels should indoor cooling be required when outdoor temperatures are low. The LAKT-01 kit works by slowing the condenser fan to maintain head pressure by varying the air flow through the outside condenser coil. This is accomplished by measuring the liquid temperature at the coil with a thermistor probe and based on the temperature readings from the probe, the ambient kit will automatically adjust the motor speed to prevent freezing.
These kits are not approved for any 16 and 18 SEER outdoor units that utilize an ECM condensor fan motor.
The following accessories must be installed on all condensers andremote heat pumps when equipped with low ambient kits:
1. Crankcase heater must be installed if not factory installed.
2. Hard start kit for single phase units. (See Spec Sheet forAccessories)
3. TXV kit installed on indoor evaporator coil, if not factory installed.
4. FSK01A – Freeze protection kit must be installed on indoorcoil.
5. Wind buffer must be installed for temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit orareas with high prevailing winds. Wind buffer can be a wallfabricated from wood or masonry material that will preventthe prevailing wind from causing the outdoor fan to rotate.NOTE: When wind buffer is installed, it is necessary to useminimum 4″ risers to elevate the unit off of the pad to providebetter airflow for moderate and high ambient temperatures.
