Description

EcoTemp 80% Single Stage 135K BTU Gas Furnace, WFER135D060C

The WFER135D060C tops the EcoTemp WFER range: 132,000 BTUH of natural gas input, 107,000 BTUH of output at 80.00% AFUE, six monoport burners, and the widest cabinet in the series at 24-1/2 in. A 3/4 HP five-speed blower with an 11 x 11 in. wheel moves 1760 CFM in heating and 1810 CFM in cooling behind a 5 ton condenser. It is the only size in the family that needs a larger flue – a 5 or 6 in. vent with an adapter between the furnace and the vent stack – which is the first thing to check when specifying it as a replacement.

Is a 135K BTU Gas Furnace the Right Size?

At 107,000 BTUH delivered this is a large-home or cold-climate furnace: sprawling floor plans, houses with substantial envelope loss, additions on a single system, or northern installations where design temperature is well below freezing. The 060 cooling code puts a 5 ton blower behind it. Its certified temperature rise range is 40°F to 70°F, the highest band in the line, reflecting the heat six burners put into the airstream.

Sizing at this capacity deserves particular care. A 132,000 BTUH input furnace in a home that only needs 80,000 will short cycle badly, and the oversizing penalty compounds with an 80% single stage burner that has no low-fire mode to fall back on. Run the heat loss calculation. Then confirm three things before ordering: that the gas supply and meter can carry 132,000 BTUH, that the vent can be adapted to 5 or 6 in., and that the mechanical space will take a 24-1/2 in. cabinet and a 167 lb unit.

Ideal for: Large homes with high heat loss, cold-climate installations, older properties with weak envelopes, and 5 ton system matches with room for a 24-1/2 in. cabinet.

Already at the top? The 135K is the largest furnace in the WFER series – compare the rest of the range on the 80% metal-vented furnace page, or consider a 92%+ PVC-vented condensing furnace where higher efficiency is worth the venting change.

Recommended applications are general guidelines only. Actual furnace selection depends on a calculated heat loss, duct design, venting, gas supply and local code. Request free sizing assistance, contact Budget Heating, or call 813-885-7999.

The venting requirement is the key planning item: the 135 size needs a 5 or 6 in. vent, using an adapter between the furnace and the vent stack – see the installation instructions and browse ventilation pipe and accessories. The 24-1/2 in. cabinet takes external bottom filter rack NAHB00801FF with a 24 x 25 in. washable filter. Pair the cooling side with a 5 ton coil such as the EcoTemp W5AM61M24XA R-454B cased coil, whose 24-1/2 in. casing matches this cabinet exactly.
