The Braeburn 5970 Universal Thermostat Guard is a clear, locking thermostat cover that stops unauthorized temperature changes and protects the thermostat from damage. It fits thermostats up to 7.3″ wide × 5.25″ high × 1.8″ deep. It works on new installs or over an existing thermostat, usually without taking the thermostat off the wall. A tumbler lock and two keys keep control with the manager, owner or maintenance staff. It is built for offices, lobbies, schools, hospitals, restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores and rental properties.

Braeburn calls the 5970 universal because it fits nearly any wall thermostat up to 7.3″ (185 mm) wide × 5.25″ (133 mm) high × 1.8″ (46 mm) deep. That covers most standard digital, programmable and non-programmable models. Before ordering, measure your thermostat’s width, height and depth, including any faceplate or door that sticks out. The 1.8″ depth is the dimension most often overlooked.
Your installation type decides which parts you use. On an existing thermostat, only the clear base and locking cover go on the wall. Some thermostats need to come off their sub-base first. On a new install, you can add the included opaque wall plate behind the thermostat to cover old screw holes, paint lines or marks from a previous thermostat.

Everything needed to lock down a wall thermostat comes in one box. The clear ring base mounts to the wall around the thermostat with four screws and anchors. The hinged cover hooks over the top of the base and locks at the bottom with the tumbler key. Because the cover is clear, occupants can still read the display and current temperature while the controls stay out of reach.
