The WFER070B036C puts 66,000 BTUH of natural gas input and 54,000 BTUH of output into the industry-standard 17-1/2 in. furnace cabinet – the width that lines up with the largest share of existing plenums and coil cases in the field. Three monoport burners fire on hot surface ignition under an electronic control center with LED diagnostics, and a 1/3 HP five-speed blower with an 11 x 8 in. wheel handles up to 3 tons of cooling. Its certified 35°F to 65°F temperature rise band is the widest-shifted in the 70K group, which gives an installer more room to dial in a duct system that runs a little warm.
Is a 70K BTU Gas Furnace the Right Size?
Sixty-six thousand BTUH of input serves the broad middle of the residential market – typical three-bedroom homes in moderate climates, or larger well-insulated houses further south. Output lands at 54,000 BTUH at 80.00% AFUE, with the blower rated 985 CFM on the heating tap and 1005 CFM on cooling.
Where the 070B036 differs from its 14-3/16 in. sibling is not capacity but geometry and airflow behavior. The wider cabinet mates directly to a 17-1/2 in. coil case and 16 in. bottom inlet without a transition, and its temperature rise is certified from 35°F to 65°F rather than 30°F to 60°F. Run a heat loss calculation, then check that the duct system can hold rise inside that band at the selected speed tap. Restrictive returns and undersized supply trunks are the usual reason a correctly sized furnace still runs hot.
Ideal for: Standard 17-1/2 in. plenums and coil cases, three-bedroom single-family homes, moderate-climate changeouts, and installations where the furnace has to bolt to an existing 16 in. bottom return opening.

The matching 17 in. accessories are external bottom filter rack NAHB00601FF, which ships with a 16 x 25 in. washable filter, and return air kit NAHA01701RA.
